Please check out all of my social media links above, particularly Twitter. I post all critical issues with RFMS via Twitter.
I think quite possibly so. Some may argue something like Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer or similar, but these type songs are written to be stupid, redneck, etc. There is truly intent to be silly.
However, the TLDB, seems to be meant to be “holy”. As a Christian, I would like to smack my fellow Christians upside the head on this one. Any Christian found humming, toe tapping, or air drumming this song should be burned at the stake for heresy.
“Why?”, you may ask, doth the froth come from my lips on this? Well let us take just a moment to examine this little Christmas nugget.
We must start from the premise that thems what came up with this song are Christians as this is a version of the birth of Jesus. Katherine Davis wrote the song in 1941. Apparently, Katy was reading the birth stories and started thinking, wow, this is OK, but it is missing something. It’s cool that we have:
- A virgin that was told by an angel she was going to have a baby
- Hiding from a king that wants to slaughter babies
- Shepherds that showed up because an angel told them to
- Wise men that followed a star
No, no, we’re really missing the hook here – we need A SNARE DRUM!! Yes, yes, even though the snare didn’t come around (probably) until medieval times, it would really cinch this whole scene together.
Using Katy’s lead, I think I’d put together some timpani for the crucifixion, or something light Flight of the Bumblebee for walking on water – maybe even Judas beat-boxing when he brings the soldiers to Jesus. I mean, good Lord, if you think colorizing Miracle on 34th Street was a good idea, you’ll love this.
I did a video to help the non-accountant business owner/manager understand how cash flow effects their business. I take to simple balance sheets side-by-side and analyze how the income statment and the changes in the accounts effect cash flow.
